Maximum Output Power Control Using Short-Circuit Current and Open-Circuit Voltage of a Solar Panel

A control method to optimize the output power of a solar cell is necessary because the output of a solar cell strongly depends on solar radiation. We here proposed two output power control methods using the short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage of a solar panel. One of them used a current ratio and a voltage ratio (\alpha\beta control), and the other used a current ratio and a short-circuit current--electric power characteristic coefficient (\alpha\gamma control). The usefulness of the \alpha\beta and the \alpha\gamma control methods was evaluated. The results showed that the output power controlled by our proposed methods was close to the maximum output power of a solar panel.
