Synthesis of Carbon-Nanotube Fine Particles in a Glow-Discharge Plasma and Evaluation of Hydrogen Storage Properties

Carbon fine particles including single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were successfully synthesized in the gas phase by hot filament thermal chemical vapor deposition with radio-frequency (RF) plasma. The process of formation of fine particles was monitored from the variation of RF self-bias voltage. Synthesized carbon fine particles showed a higher hydrogen storage capacity than commercialized SWNTs (CoMoCAT) under the storage conditions of atmospheric pressure and room temperature.
