Components of Storage Protein in Hypocotyl-radicle Axis of Soybean (Glycine max. cv. Enrei) Seeds

Protein components in the hypocotyl-radicle axis of soybean seeds were compared with those in the cotyledon. The hypocotyl-radicle axis was rich in 7S and 2S proteins but poor in 1 IS protein on the profiles of analytical ultracentrifugation and of SDS-PAGE. Among the 7S-protein constituent polypeptides, α-polypeptide was abundunt but α- and β-polypeptides were less abundunt than in the cotyledon. Several isomers of 7S protein were found and their main constituents were α-, α-, or both polypeptides on two-dimensional PAGE. These results indicated that the hypocotyl-radicle axis contained different types of the 7S protein than the cotyledon.
