Analysis of the Characteristics of an AC Solenoid Magnetic Release with Permanent Magnet

It is important to study the polar effect on the start action current to design the high performance AC solenoid magnetic release with permanent magnet. With 3-D finite element method, the attractive forces acting on the armature variation with the air gap and current were calculated to both positive and negative polar, and the experimental phenomena were well explained by the calculation results. To restrain the obvious polar effect and maintain the start action current, one nonmagnetic thin copper plate is mounted at the top of armature near the side of the permanent magnet, and to the different design thickness of the copper plate, the matching turns of the coil were obtained. In addition, the method to analyze the interruption process of the selective circuit breaker with the kind of release was proposed, and the validity was verified by the experimental results.
