Simulation of Capacitive Current Switching Characteristics on 550kV Single-breaker Tank Circuit Breaker

In this paper, an arc model for 500kV SF6 single-breaker tank circuit breaker is built by using modified commercial CFD package PHOENICS software. The Finite Volume Method (FVM) is used to calculate the flow field in the arc chamber. Through the simulation, the flow velocity vector and mach number for capacitive current switching are analyzed, and flow dynamic characteristics are obtained, which is helpful for the design of 550kV SF6 single-breaker tank circuit breaker.
