Study of the Main Factors Affecting the Potential Distribution for Porcelain Zinc Oxide Arresters

The potential distribution is calculated with finite element method for one 500kV porcelain ZnO arrester, the validation of which is verified by measuring the potential distribution of the arrester using the optical fiber-current measurement method. Then the influences of the size of calculation boundary, the parameters of grading ring and the mounting height on potential distribution are analyzed. It demonstrates that to the 500kV arrester, the existence of the lower grading ring has more significant influence on the potential distribution, and the voltage potential distribution coefficient of the upper and lower sections could be improved effectively through increasing the mounting height; the mounting height hardly affects the voltage potential distribution coefficient to the 110kV and 220kV arresters.
