A study on the arc plasma in GaInSn current limiter

This paper is devoted to the investigation of arc plasma in the GaInSn current limiter. The arc behavior including arc initiation and arc evolution are observed through a specific experimental setup. From the experimental result, the arc initiation mechanism driven by the pinch effect is revealed. According to the morphological changes of arc, the arc evolution is classified into four stages which seem to be characterized by discontinuous slope variation of arc resistance. Using an experimental device of LMCL, the effect of pass through current on the arc characteristics is also studied and discussed in details.
