According to the traditional usage, the extract of Viticis Fructus was tested for the effect on NE-induced constriction in rat aortic strips without endothelium and for the analgesic effect by the writhing and tail pressure methods in mice. The extract showed both vasodilatory and analgesic effects. By the bioassay-oriented separation using the former activity, flavonoids, luteolin, crysosplenol D, penduletin and (2S)-5,3'-dihydroxy-6,7,4'-trimethoxyflavanone, were isolated as the active components.
