Simultaneous determination of chromium and manganese in some low alloy steels and stainless steels was examined. The background correction method was applied to chromium K_α line and manganese K_β line. The equations for the correction of background were as follows : T_<Mn>=C_<Mn>-0.226C_<Cr>/0.951 and T_<Cr>=C_<Cr>-0.219C_<Mn>/0.951, where T is the true X-ray intensity and C is the observed X-ray intensity. Chromium and manganese in low alloy steels and in 25 per cent chromium -20 per cent nickel steels were determined with these equations and calibration curves.
