Pulverizing experiments were made for eight sorts of metals and alloys, such as lead, cadmium, tin, silver, copper, iron, cast steel and a copper alloy (Imitation gold) by using a cutter mill, which is designed to pulverize the material mainly by the shearing forces of the cutter. The relations between the work done and time for pulverizing, the effects of mechanical property and size of the starting material upon the work done, and also the changes of particle size distributi9n and shape of produced powder, were studied. From these results, a qualitative explanation was made for the pulverizing process and mechanism in the mill, and further the pulverizing method of the mill was examined.
