Subsolidus Phase Equilibrium Study of the Ternary Systems Li_2O-Nd_2O_3-GeO_2 and -SiO_2

Subsolidus phase equilibria have been investigated in the ternary systems LiO_<0.5>-NdO_<1.5>-GeO_2(L-N-G) and -SiO_2 (L-N-S). Various ternary compounds were found: 13/1/4(γ), 3/1/1 (ε), 1/9/6(β) and 10/5/6 (α, incongruent) in L-N-G, and 13/1/4 (δ_s) and β_s s.s. (between 1/9/6(β_s) and 0/4/3 (β'_s)) in L-N-S. The solid-state reactions of some of these compounds were examined as well as those of the related binary compounds, especially 3/4 (σ) and (probably) 3/5 (τ) in the LiO_<0.5>-GeO_2 system. Appreciable fluorescence activity was detected in γ in L-N-G.
