On the Relations between Electromechanical Coupling Coefficients and Elastic Constants in a Piezoelectric Crystal

The sound propagations in a piezoelectric crystal are treated generally. The coupling factors introduced by Yamada and Niizeki are convenient for the formulation of the admittances, but are not suited for relating various elastic constants with one another. Several coupling coefficients are defined here in alternative ways on tlae basis of the piezoelectric relations with various variable sets. The present procedure gives a perspective insight into the meanings of coupling coefficients. The coupling factors thus defined afford the refined relations among elastic constants.
