The generation of ultrasonic waves by magnetic resonance has been analyzed based on the piezomagnetic formalism. A fundamental piezomagnetic relation was rearranged from the well-known equations describing the magnetoelastic interaction between spin and acoustic waves. The analysis followed a classical procedure which takes into account the magnetic and mechanical conditions macroscopically in the interior and at the boundary surface of the medium. This is independent of any particular models assuming spin-pinning. The results were fit for an interpretation of experiments on the irradiation and detection of ultrasonic waves by the SWR and FMR in a ferromagnetic thin film deposited on quartz.
