Pulsed HF Chemical Lasers from Reactions of Fluorine Atoms with Benzene, Toluene, Xylene, Methanol, and Acetone

The stimulated emission of vibrationally excited HF has been investigated in the pulse-discharged mixtures of SF_6 and hydrogen donors: C_6H_6, C_6H_5CH_3, C_6H_4 (CH_3)_2, CH_3OH, and (CH_3)_2CO. The P_<2-1>(J=3-8) and P_<1-0>(J=4-8) lines, and P_<2-1>(J=5-8) and P_<1-0>(J=4-8) lines were found in the mixtures with C_6H_4(CH_3)_2 and C_6H_5CH_3, respectively, while with C_6H_6 only the P_<1-0>(J=4-8) lines were observed. The addition of C_6H_4(CH_3)_2 to the SF_6/H_2 mixture resulted in the enhancement of the HF laser power, when the concentration of H_2 Was small. This was due to the fact that C_6H_4(CH_3)_2 acted as a hydrogen donor.
