Observation of Spatial and Temporal Evolution of Planar Photoinduced Waveguide in LiNbO_3 Crystal

We have two-dimensionally visualized a photoinduced planar waveguide produced in a photorefractive LiNbO_3 crystal. Temporal and spatial evolution of the waveguide was investigated by the interferometric imaging technique. The guiding of a probe He-Ne laser in the waveguide was also experimentally observed.
