Time-Resolved Spectroscopic Studies on the TE HF Chemical Lasers Using the Mixtures of SF_6/H_2 and SF_6/CH_4

HF chemical laser emission was obtained on a large number of P-branch lines in the 3-2, 2-1 and 1-0 vibrational bands. Time-resolved spectroscopy of the P-branch lines showed that the P_<2→1>(J) line (J=5〜8) started lasing first and the onsets of the P_<3→2>(J-1) and P_<1→0>(J+1) lines were delayed from it, and that the P_<3→2>(J-1) was weaker than either of the other two lines. The ratios of the vibrational populations contributing to the laser emission and the relative HF laser gains of the three vibrational transitions were calculated. There results were consistent with the temporal behavior of the P-branch lines. The time sequence of the individual laser lines were found to be quite similar for both cases where H_2 and CH_4 were used as the hydrogen donors. This means that both chemical pumping reactions are quite similar.
