The auxin-binding proteins (ABP-I and ABP-II) purified from etiolated mung bean seedlings stimulated RNA synthesis in isolated nuclei both in the presence and absence of (NH_4)_2SO_4. In the absence of (NH_4)_2SO_4, maximum stimulation of RNA synthesis occurred at 100 μg ABP-1 (25%) and 300 μg ABP-II (60%), whereas in the presence of 50 mM (NH_4)_2SO_4 maximum stimulation occurred at 60 μg ABP-I (10%) and 100 μμg ABP-II (40%). These stimulatory effects on RNA synthesis by ABP-1 and ABP-II were completely abolished by the addition of a-amanitin (4 μg/0.5 ml reaction mixture). IAA had no effect on the stimulation of RNA synthesis by ABP-I and ABP-II.
