Possible role of the cytosol pathway of acetyl-CoA supply in terpene biosynthesis in sweet potato infected with Ceratocystis fimbriata

Pyruvate was converted into acetyl-CoA by the cytosol-enzyme fraction prepared from sweet potato root tissue infected with Ceratocystis fimbriata. The conversion was dependent on thiamine pyrophosphate, NAD^+, ATP and CoA. Activities of pyruvate decarboxylase, aldehyde dehydrogenase and acetyl CoA synthetase increased in diseased tissue. These results indicate the operation of the cytosol pathway of acetyl-CoA supply for terpene biosynthesis in C. fimbriata-infected tissue which consists of the above three enzymes.
