It has been experimentally confirmed that the shape and the structure of sulphides in TIG-arc weld metals of Fe-S-Mn alloy steels and the solidification crack susceptibility can be classified by the new parameter Mn^3/S which was already derived theoretically by the authors. Moreover the changes in the shape and the structure of sulphide and in the solidification crack susceptibility with an increase in Mn^3/S have been revealed. The sulphur contents of these Fe-S-Mn alloy steels were purposely made somewhat higher than those encountered in the commercial steels to make the observation of sulphides easy.
