• Cinnamyl benzoate, and antimycotic compound with a sweet smell, was synthesized by the reaction between benzoyl chloride and cinnamyl alcohol in pyridine as solvent and consequently obtained as a colorless and needle-like crystal wirh a melting point of 37℃. In comparison with benzoic acid as a food preservative, cinnamyl benzoate showed a specific antibiotic activity against dermatophytic fungi such as Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton violaceum and Epidermophyton floccosum over a wide pH range, but only weak activity, towards other microorganisms such as Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida albicans and Aspergillus oryzae. Thus cinnamyl benzoate may have wide applications an aroma-diffusing antimycotic agent, an antimycotic shoe-deodorizer, and so on.
