We demonstrated that the transcriptional expression of MT1-MMP, MMP-9,cathepsin K, and TRAP in highly enriched osteoclasts were regulated by different matrix proteins that bind to integrin on osteoclast, such as collagen type I (CoI), fibronectin (FN), vitronectin (VN), osteopontin (OPN), and ivory. Results suggested that the OPN-integrin α_vβ_3 binding plays a more important role than CoI-α_2β_1 binding in the regulation of osteoclast activity.
