A new formulation is presented to obtain lower bounds for the critical value A. ofthe contact processes. A series of correlation inequalities are derived and combinedwith a set of correlation identities to estimate an order parameter p,. A simplifiedderivation of the Dobrushin and the Harris bound is presented following our formula-lion. The Griffeath bound is extended to the general dimensiorns d>1. For the onedimensional system, improved bounds are calculated.
