Properties of optically excited states of the Se,[ molecule in Kl have been studied bythe measurement of absorption, luminescence and excitation spectra. From the excita-lion spectrum, it is confirmed that the 3.6 eV absorption band originates from thesame center as the 2.4 eV band and is ascribed to the Se.- molecule in Kl. Thermalquenching of ordinary luminescence (OL) in Kl:Sel and shortening of the CL decaytime are interpreted in terms of a thermally activated non-radiative decay process ofthe excited state 'II. in the Se.- molecule. The weak emission in the energy regionhigher than the 0'-0 line is confirmed to be "hot luminescence" (HE) by means of thetime-resolved spectroscopy. The HE in this system has a decay time less than 50 psand is detectable not only in the higher energy region of the 0'-0 line but also in thelower energy region.Iphotoluminescence, ordinary luminescence, hot luminescence, time resolved lj spectroscopy, non-radiative decay process, vibrational relaxation, selenium $l molecule, Kl:Se.-l
