Detailed uneasurenvents of the electron spin-lattice relaxation tinae T. of Fe"ion in rutile were carried out frouav ].7K up To 3OK by the puts<: saturationrecovery nvethod. It was found that below N15 K tlae relaxation was xtaainlydue to the direct process, while above xl5 K the Ranaan process douvainated. The te?aaperature dependence of the direct relaxation rate was found to be depend-ent on the kind of transition. At 4.2 K, the anisotropy of the direct relaxationrate was clearly observed. In order to explain these experixaaental r<:suits, COIII-putation of 7'1 using ?taagnetoelastic coupling teztsor (G tensor), irt which theelastic anisotropy of the lattice was taken into account, was carried out and thecoupling of Fe" ton with lattice strain is discussed. For the Ranaan process, therelaxation rate was found to be proportional to T" and the anisotropy of a faqtorof around 3 was observed.
