Electron Spin-Lattice Relaxation of Min^3+ Ion in Rutile

The electron spin-lattice relaxation time Tg of (3d)' type ion, Mn"", in rutilewas measured from 1.7 K up to 7 I( by the pulse saturation recovery method. Itwas concluded that, in a liquid He temperature region, T. was deternrined by theOrbach process via tlu'ee excited levels.The anisotropy of T. was observed at 4.2 K, although T. by the sinxple Orbachprocess is expected to be independent of the direction'of static magn?:tic field. Inorder to understand this result, we presume that the relaxation of Ran" ion inTie. is phonon-bottlenecked, suggesting stronger coupling of Mn" spin with thelattice than the case of Fe", MID" or Cr" tons.
