Magnetic Ordering,Orbital State and Lattice Distortion in Perovskite Manganites

Possible ordered phases in perovskite manganites are investigated in the f'ramexvork of an effec-Live spin Hamiltonian for the atonaic limit. Using the mean-field approxitnation cornbined with agroup-theoretical consideration, we detertnine the stable orbital and spin ordered phases at finiteternperatures. It is found that the rnagnetic ordering with low-syttartaetry spatial arrangement isstabilxzed dvxe to the mxxing interaction between different multipoles. The resulting orbital statesare discussed by taking into account the effect of lattice distortion frotn the ctnbic syunmetry.The spin and orbital states in LaMn03 are discussed on the basis of' the present theory.
