On the Stability of Quadrupolar Domains in TmTe

The stability of quadrtrpolar dotauains in TtaaTe is sttrdied theoretically. Starting fronu tlaedecotrpled fotrr sc sublattices in the Till .fcc lattice, we analyze the inter-sublattice cotrplingoriginating frorn the electrostatic interaction of qtradrtrpoles. It is slaoxvn that the single-A stateis stabilized ataaong possible coznbinations of' uaatrlti-A ordering pattern. The stable A-dornarnsin w'eak magnetic fields are predicted for variotrs field directions.
