Motion of Charged Soliton in Polyacetylene Due to Electric Field. IV. : Damping of Soliton Velocity

We study velocity damping of a moviuag soliton in )>olyacetylene by using numericalsimulations within Su, Sclarieffer and Heeger's model. The system is assumed to be atabsolute zero of textaperature and involves no impurity. Ill order to get an initial veloc-ity the soliton is accelerated by appl)'ing an external electric field. Tlae relaxation tixateof tlae soliton velocity Baas a miniunum value wlten tlte initial velocity is around fivesound velocity of tlais system. This is a result of the interaction between t}te movingsoliton and the acoustic PIIOIIOIIS emitted by tlte solil exa itself. We find that fate damp-ing of the soliton velocity is caused by tlte energy tr?tnsfer from the moving soliton tothe acoustic phonons.
