Fractionally Charged States in One-Dimensional Electron-Phonon Systems with Commensurability 3

Numerical analyses of the 'various states with nonlinear excitations in one-dimensional nearly one-third filled electron-phonon systems are performed byusing Su-Schrieffer-Heeger's model originally proposed for polyacetylene. Thestates are determined by solving numerically the self-consistent equations satisfiedby the lattice displacement and the electronic wave functions. Different solutionsare obtained for different valtaes of the excess electron number c>n=N. -2N/3with N the total number of the lattice sites and V. the total electron number;the cases with 6nw :l:1/3, 1112/3, Ill, -f4/3, f5/3 a?td -f2 are eonsidered.Throughcomparison of the energies for 6n=0 and 6n f-O, the creation energies of variousnonlinear excitations are calculated and shown to depend not only on the absolutevalue but also on the sign of the charge of the excitations.
