Brillouin Scattering Studies on Elastic Constants and Polytypes en GaSe_<1-x>S_x (0≤x≤1) Layered Crystals

Brillouin scattering measurements have been made to determine a completeset of elastic tensor components in GaSe. ,S. (0<.X'<1) layered crystals. It isfound that most elastic tensor components exhibit discontinuities at the com-positions ,vt0 and/or x';:0.4, associating with the e-7 and 7-73 polytype trans-formations. With a simple layered structure model, the diagonal components ofthe elastic tensor are related to the inter- and intra-layer force constants. Thecomposition and polytype dependences of the compressive and shear interlayerforce constants are discussed by taking account of the Van der Waals interactionsand the Coulomb interactions between two atoms in adjacent layers.
