Galvanomagnetic Effects in the Charge-Density-Wave State of 2H-NbSe_2 and 2H-TaSe_2

The magnetoresistance and Hall coefficient in the charge-density-wave (CDW.)state of 2#-NbSe. and 2#-TaSe. have been measured at low temperatures inmagnetic fields up to 150 k0e, using high-quality single crystals. The results onthese two compounds have been compared with those on 2ff-NbS. which hasno CDW transition. By the comparison, several anomalous features in the CDWsystems (2#-NbSe. and -TaSe.) have been made clear : ] ) The magnetoresistanceis relatively large and exhibits a linear dependence on magnetic field. 2) The Hallcoefficient shows a strong field dependence including a minimum. We considerthat the observed behaviors in the CDW systems may be explained by recon-struction of the Fermi surface in the CDW state and magnetic breakdown throughthe CDW gaps,
