Second-Order Raman Scattering and Its Resonant Behavior in Thallium Halide Crystals

Second-order Raman scattering spectra have been measured in T]Br'and TICIsingle crystals at 77 K. In both crystals, the resonant behavior of the overtone bandof LO r>bonon with ct? (the 2L0(f) band) is exrlained bar the theor>r of Gannul>rand Birman. Combination bands of two phonons with large wave vector havebeen observed in the spectra. The dependemxce of their intemsities on th<S incident. photon energy has been found to be different from that of the 2L0(f) band,which shows that the scattering processes are different.
