Far-Infrared Investigations of Magneto-Plasma Resonances of Electron-Hole Drops in Germanium

Far-infrared magneto-plasma absorptions due to electron-hole drops (EHD) inptu'e germanium have been measured at quasi-continuous wavelengths from250 /Zllll to 1730 /ZITI by the use of optica][y pumped lasers in the Faraday andVoigt configtu'ations up to 80 k0e. The observed magneto-plasma resonances ofEHD are classified into the transverse and the longitudial modes, and also intothe electric-dipole and the magnetic-dipole resonance modes according to thetheory by Ford et at. We also discuss carrier mass renormalization in EHDand influence of strong magnetic field on the properties of EHD, comparingthe experimental results with the theoretical calculations. The estimated value ofcarrier density and radius of END are 8 x 10" cm ' and 0.2 /ZITI at 70 k0e,respectively.
