Phase Transition in Anisotropic Antiferromagnet with External Magnetic Field

Following the Bogoliubov variational principle, the equilibrium and the stabilityequations of the free energy for the two-sublattice antiferromagnetic system withinfer- and intrasublattice exchange interactions and with an external magneticfield are investigated. For the Ising system witln uniaxial anisotropy the phasediagrams have been calculated for various values of anisotropy constant d and theratio of intra- to intersublattice interaction constants 7. It is shown that the firstorder as well as the second order transitions oc:cur for y:?0, whereas only thesecond order transition occurs for 7$0, irrespective of the sign of d. Particularly,however, qu.ite interesting phase diagrams are obtained for #<0. Furthermore,for the anisotropic Heisenberg system with anisotropy constant 4, similar cat-culations are extended and the usual phase diagrams artc obtained for 4>>')t,whereas those of a peculiar type are obtained for I;<,7. Thescc results are discussedin comparison with the existirag theories.
