Antimony Particles with {200} Twinning Prepared by Vacuum Evaporation

The external shape of antimony particles prepared by vacuum evaporation has been studied by transmission electron microscopy. Particles grown on heated amorphous carbon substrates (200-250℃) in high vacuum have the quadrangular pyramidal shape with sizes from 50 nm to 3 μm. These particles are twinned particles consisting of four thin, wedge-shaped (111) plates twinned on the {200} planes with each other. The atomic movements for the formation of the {200} twinning are also proposed. The bending of each plate due to the formation of a twinned particleis analyzed using bend contours. (Indices are referred to the face-centred rhombohedral cell of axial angle 87°24'.)
