In the previous investigatiot? by the present authors, the anttferromagnetic structureof the he,xagonal layer compovand Fel. was explained by takin g into consideration theintralayer as well as interlayer bilinear exchange interactions between Ising spins. TheFeI.-structure, however, is not uniquely the ground state and degenerated with otherthree structures. It is pointed out that the four-spin interaction is a possible origin to liftthis quadruple degeneracy, although any bilinear magnetic interaction is unable to liftit. A general theory of the four-spin interaction is cleveloped and a discussion is made.
