Influence of the Field Strength and Direction on the Magnetic Phases of an Antiferromagnet with Uniaxial Anisotropy

For a two-sttblattice uniaxial N<Sel-type antifercc'omagnet, the stable spin con-figurations at the zero-temperature under an extev"nal magnetic field of arbitrarydirection withint a particular plane are studied in the nearest neighbor spin-coupling approximation. Particularly, the effects of single ionic anisotropyD-term and anisotropy in the exchange interactions on the magnetic pha:>es areinvestigated. As a result, it has turned out that the antiferromagnetic state appearsonly for the external magnetic field along the easy ,axis of sublattice magnetizationand SIIOWS a first-order phase transition to the canted-spin state for D< D. ordirectly to the ferromagnetic state for D'?D. wlaere D.=O.5?J?z. with the ox-change integral J and the number of nearest neighbors z.. For other field direc-lions, no antiferromagnetic state appears and only the second-order phasetransition between the canted-spin and ferromagnetic states occurs. The criticalfield as a function of external field direction has been calculated for severalD-values.
