Magnetic properties and electrical conductivity of the YFe.0. single crystalwere investigated. It was discxlosed that YFe.O.. is an antiferromagnet whoseN<Sel point is 205 K, and the spin lies parallel to the hexagorxal c axis. Below T.,the magnetization parallel to tlte c axis was not proportional to the magnetic field.A large rotational hysteresis xvas observed at temperatures between 170 and 120 K.Below 140 K, a weak but very hard ferromagneti<x moment parallel to the c axisresulted from field cooling. On the basis of these facts, a moclel of parasitic ferro-naagnetism, i.e., preferential location of Fe" and Fe" ions on each antiferro-nvagnetic sublattice, is proposed. If such a preferential location is caused by thedifference of the exchange interaction constant, YFez0.q is the first example ofan annealed random spit? systczm.
