Spin Orientation of Magnetic Impurity Atom in MCl_2 Crystal (M=Fe, Co or Ni)

Mannetic cr>'stal containinz one ntaunetic intrurjt>' atoxct, whose magnetic easyaxis is different fronc that of host atoms, is studied theoretically. Two differentmethods are deveJored to give the sr>in orientation of the inapurjty and host atoms.They give almost the same results each other. The method is applied to theimpurity Fe atom in CoC]. or NiCl. crystal. The spin of Fe atona is parallel tothat of host atoms in COCl2, in agreenaent with the experincental result, but thecase of NiClz is not in agreement with tire experimental result unless more aniso-tropic exchange jnteractjons are introduced. It is predjcted that the spin ofimpurity Ni or Co ato?n in Feel. crystal is parallel to that of Fe atonts.
