Photoemission Studies on Intercalation Compounds of M_xTiS_2 : (M=3d Transition Metals)

Effect of 3d transition metal intercalation into IT-Cdl. type Tie. layered crystals,expressed as M.TiS. (M = Mn, Fe, Co and Ni), has been studied by synchrotron radia-lion photoemission over the photon energy range of hco=32-120 eV. The spectra arefound to depend strongly on the guest 3d metals and their conacentration. The valencebands are modified by the strong hybridization of Ti 3d, S 3p states and the guestatom 3d states, in good agreement with a theoretical prediction.
