Resonant Photoemission Study of Molybdenum Bronzes:K_<0.3>MoO_3,K_<0.33>MoO_3 and K_<0.9>Mo_6O_<17>

The electronic structures of molybdenum bronzes K..,Mo0, K..,.Mo0, andK..,Mo0.. have been systematically studied by means of the ultraviolet photoemis-sion spectroscopy (UPS). Resonant photoemission spectra have been measured in thephoton energy range from 32 eV to 100 eV. The measurements of total yield spectrahave also been made on K...Mo0, and K..,Mo.0.,. Resonant enhancements of thephotoemission have been observed in the valence and conduction bands with the con-tribution from the Mo 4d states for the excitation around hv=49 or 50 eV. It is foundthat the resonant effect is very weak for the structures at a binding energy E.= 4.6 eVfor K..,Mo0, and K...,MoO,. The magnitude of these resonances corresponds to thelocal electronic densities of Mo 4d states at the corresponding E. and can bequalitatively explained by the simple band structure model.
