NVe observed an trltrafast response as f'ast 21S 240 fs in a gold nanoparticle systeraa, in a feraatosecond optical Kerr shtmtter experiuauent. We stmccessftully deraaonstrate 2.5THz optical switching.The ultrafast response of the Kerr signal is explained by a sitaaple rnodel taking into accotrnt theself-diffraction of the pLlIl1p ptrlse by the generated transient grating.
