In order to determine the causes of the inhibitory effect of garbage compost on komatsuna(Brassica Rapa var. pervidis) growth using Neubaruer's pot, low fatty acids and sodium chloride were separately added to the control treatment. The results were compared with those reported in Part I of the paper and discussed. When the inhibitory effect of the electrical conductivity induced by excessive amounts of garbage compost applied was taken into account, the relative yield of the compost treatment to the yield of the control with identical inorganic nitrogen supply was well correlated with the ratio of organic carbon to organic nitrogen (org.-C/org.-N ratio) of the water extract from the compost. The relative yields for all compost treatments, when the org.-C/org.-N ratios ranged from 5 to 6, reached values of 1 or above. This finding suggests that the maturity of the composts can be correctly evaluated by the determination of the org.-C/org.-N ratios of the water extract from the composts.
