Mass Transfer Coefficient of Dispersed Fine Bubbles in Electrolytic Solutions

The oxygen transfer of fine air bubbles formed by a special jet nozzle were experimentally observed and discussed. The values of mass transfer coefficients K_l were separately determined from the gas-liquid interfacial area, which was obtained from the photpgraphically measured diameters of the bubbles and from the observed gas holdup.Both the steady-state and the unsteady-state methods discussed in the authors' previous paper were used as procedures to determine K_l from the experimental data. The difference of the obtained values of K_l between the two methods was small.When the Reynolds number based on the diameter and the slip velocity of bubbles was less than 300,bubbles swarms behaved like solid particles in the liquid. The oxygen transfer of such bubbles, however, did not coincide with the mass transfer of solid particles. For bubbles smaller than 0.6 mm in diameter, the mass transfer coefficient decreased markedly with a decrease in the bubbles diameter.
