Fireball Model Analyses of Small and Large Transverse Momentum Pion Distributions at ISR Energies

By taking account of the production and subsequent two-step decay of the large fireball called SH-quantum observed since 1967 in cosmic ray experiments in addition to the production of the usual small fireball called H-quantum, we obtain a good fit for the inclusive one-pion distributions at large angle in ISR energy region . The inclusive distributions for large transverse momentum pions can be fitted with the production cross section of SH-quantum σ_<SH><sime>0.4 and 2mb at √<s>=23 and 63 GeV, respectively. Due to the large decay multiplicity of SH-quantum, these small production cross sections of SH-quantum account also for the increase around 40% of the inclusive distributions for small transverse momentum pions in the ISR energy region √<s>=23〜63 GeV.
