It is shown that the cuts appearing in the smoothed Veneziano model may not necessarily be connected with the Pomeranchuk singularity. An alternate interpretation is proposed, in which the cuts have the same quantum numbers as the original trajectories being smoothed out. The cuts associated with ρ and ω give a nearly constant contribution to the cross sections at high energy. Applications to the total _Ν and ΚΝ cross sections at high energy are presented.
