To examine how a tube, is changed in its diameter or wall-thickness, when expanded throughout its whole length, the authors have been engaged in experiments using plugs for expansion of special design, and have released a report concerning the results. In this study, attention is paid, referring to the said results, to the development of the clad tube manufacturing method by tube-expanding to which no researches have been made to now. By selecting tubes whose materials are different from each other, clad tubes exhibit many of merits such as allowing the cost to be reduced by replacing part of the expensive materials with less expensive ones, permitting specific mechanical or physical properties to be expected, etc. Here, to obtain fundamental data and information in connection with the change of the dimensional accuracy or joining strength when clad tube working was carried out by tube-expanding, an experiment was conducted using phosphor deoxidized copper tubes for both the inner and outer tubes. The results are obtained as follows : (1) Use of either plug of half angle 6°, 13°, and 20°is possible to conduct clad tube working of small wall-thickness scatters along circumferential and longitudinal direction of the tube. (2) When a plug of the half angle 20°is used, the inner tube has smallest wall-thickness, the outer diameter magnification is the minimum, and inner tube elongation is the maximum. (3) The tube-expanding force is found increased with increasing plug angle. (4) The joint strength is the minimum when the plug of half angle 20°is used. For other cases, almost the same value was shown.
