The author has reported to now the results of studies concerning phosphorous-deoxidized copper tubes worked by expansion and drawing with the aid of specially-designed plugs. The reports explains that expansion working maintaining dimensional precision possessed by raw tubes is possible by choosing working condition, allowing the ratio of the inside-surface of the tube and plug-taper portion to the inside diameter of the tube after the working complying with the contacting length to be more than 0.2. Taking up the result for reference, this study aims at finding out the optimum working condition to produce high-quality products by performing expansion working of brass tubes. The experiment was conducted in accordance with combination of the outer diameter magnification 5,15,and 20%, plug half-angle 6,13,20,30,and 45°. Following results are obtained. (1) For expansion working the tube without lowering the original thickness accuracy of the tube, the ratio of plug contact length to tube inside diameter should be kept more than 0.2. (2) To finish the roughness (RE0124_max) of the inner-side surface of the tube to allow it to be around 1μm regardless of the roughness before the working, it is recommended that working condition be established by choosing combination of plug half-angle 6,13,and 20° in case of the outer diameter magnification 5%, 6 and 13° in case of 15%, and 6° in case of 20%. (3) Whichever plug half-angles might be used, the roughness of the outer side of the tube after the expansion-drawing working remains unchanged provided that the outer diameter magnification is made 5 and 15%. However, increase of the roughness is noticed in case of the outer diameter magnification 20%. Especially when 6° and 45° are used, the roughness increase is remarkable. (4) The expansion-drawing force exhibits the maximum value when the outer diameter magnification 20% and plug half-angle 6° are used.
