The crystallization process of poly(l-lactic acid) under an external electric field was studied. The external field has control of the crystal growth direction; the crystal growth proceeds, with the crystal surface parallel to the external field. The electrical response had a predominant influence on the primary crystallization process, not on the secondary one. The structural features of the crystal were characterized by an infrared absorption spectroscopy and wide angle X-ray diffraction spectroscopy.
