The structure factor <I>S</I><SUB>m</SUB>(<I>Q</I>) for liquid acetyl chloride at room temperature has been determined in the range <I>Q</I>, 0.9–27 Å<SUP>−1</SUP>, by means of the time-of-flight (TOF) neutron diffraction method using the electron linear accelerator (LINAC). The structural parameters of CD<SUB>3</SUB>COCl, bond distances, bond angles, and rms amplitudes, in liquid phase have been determined by a comparison of calculated curves with observed data, and it has been concluded that a molecule within the liquid takes an essentially identical conformation as a rotational isomer with that in gaseous phase, which was determined by microwave spectroscopy.
